The Anne Saxelby Legacy Fund

provides monthlong paid apprenticeships for young adults to live on sustainable farms - to work, learn, and be inspired to create change in their communities.

ASLF is…

Impacting slow agriculture with extra hands — paid laborers/ visionaries helping to overcome challenges and complete everyday farm tasks.

Making inroads for a cultural shift towards slow, quality agriculture as more young adults learn about the ingredients that feed us from sustainable-minded farmers, some of the most important teachers in the world.

Facilitating investments in our apprentice alumni to open businesses that make positive change and anchor communities, like Saxelby Cheesemongers.

Some notes from our Apprentices…

“Thank you for reaffirming my love for the world of food, and for taking my seedling of a dream and letting it blossom into something larger. Thank you for the meaningful and incredible work that you do!” - Sofie Kanayama, Apprentice at Ice House Farm in Goshen, VT

“I was humbled everyday - by the other farmers, and by nature: our dependence on it, our awe in the witness of its sheer glory. I learned a million things.” -Rebecca Huang, ASLF Apprentice at Star Route Farm

“I learned what it means to work with integrity, to do things well and with care because we owed it to each other and because it was for the good of so many people”. - Abigail Greendyk, Apprentice at New Leaf Agriculture in Elgin, TX

“Everything that we consume has so much unseen labor and love behind it.” -Annabel Nied, ASLF Apprentice at Rogue Creamery

“In the world we live in, where wealth and resources are being consolidated into fewer and fewer hands, and where the threat of climate change is tangible, cheese is a very real way for people to put their money where their mouths are — by supporting small-scale sustainable farms, rural communities, and small businesses.”

— Anne Saxelby, The New Rules of Cheese
