The Food Event of The Year!

ANNE SAXELBY LEGACY FUND SECOND ANNUAL BENEFIT • CHELSEA MARKET • SEPTEMBER 13 • 6-10pm
An evening with 100 of NYC’s most beloved chefs, celebrating Anne’s impact on the food community and ASLF’s second season of fully sponsored Farm Apprenticeships.

New York, NY. September 13, 2023 - Wednesday September 13th from 6-10pm, Chelsea Market in NYC will be transformed into a gastronomic showcase powered by over 100 of Anne’s favorite chefs, artisans and mixologists preparing sustainable dishes and cocktails, to honor Anne Saxelby’s legacy in the world of food and farming, and to celebrate the second season of the Anne Saxelby Legacy Fund which matches individuals with family or community-run farms with fully paid (including salary, travel, room, board and all other expenses) apprenticeships so that they may learn sustainable practices and contribute to the continuity of local, organic and regenerative farming. Learn more on our ASLF WEBSITE.

ASLF – established immediately after Saxelby’s sudden passing in October 2021 – endows monthlong, paid apprenticeships for young adults to live on sustainable farms to work, learn, and create change in their communities and beyond. Since the Fund’s inception in late 2021, nearly 100 apprentices have been placed on 40 farms in 15 states, doubling in size since the inaugural year. With the support of the food community, ASLF hopes its apprenticeship program will continue to grow and cultivate the future of the sustainable food and agriculture industries. This year ASLF partnered with several urban farms including five in the NYC area that include Harlem Grown, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Red Hook Farm, Brooklyn Grange, and Queens County Farm Museum.

Ticket holders will enjoy an array of individually curated bites from culinary favorites, including Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson of Frenchette, Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern, Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi of Carbone, Lena Ciardullo of Union Square Cafe, Max Ng of Momofuku, Alice Waters of Chez Panisse, Trigg Brown of Win Son, Rich Ho of Ho Foods, Rita Sodi of I Sodi, Jody Williams of Buvette, and many more (full list available here). Cocktails, wine, and beer will be served by vendors Grand Army Bar, Fort Defiance, Pebble Bar, Cain Vineyards, Chamber Street Wines, Red Hook Winery, Threes Brewing, and others, in addition to inventive desserts by Caroline Schiff of Gage & Tollner and Fany Gerson of La Newyorkina.

Alongside them will be many of Saxelby Cheesemongers’ fellow Chelsea Market vendors, serving the foods that have helped transform the iconic marketplace into one of the world’s top culinary destinations.

In acknowledgement of Saxelby's dedication to sustainable food, farming, and waste practices, ASLF and all participating restaurants have pledged to ensure an environmentally friendly event by composting foodstuffs and disposables and minimizing single-use goods wherever possible.

Visual art and video will be on display telling the stories of sustainable farming through the eyes of ASLF apprentices, many of whom will be at the event. There will be a silent auction and raffle featuring special culinary experiences.

Visit the Benefit’s EVENTBRITE to see the full list of ASLF chefs and to purchase tickets, starting at a base price of $250, a student/industry professional ticket for $125 and packages ranging up to $10,000. The average cost to employ and house an apprentice on a working farm for one month is $5,000. All proceeds from the Benefit will go toward funding future farm apprenticeships.
