4” × 6” postcard print
This postcard is a photo of Alum Aelia Russell’s stained glass panel! Aelia, 2025 Apprentice of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden in Staten Island, NY, writes:
“As the farm began to feel like home, I thought about how what makes soil ‘good’ is the same as what makes a community strong; soil must be connected by networks of roots and fungi for plants to communicate. It must be diverse—full of microbes that build nutrient-rich soil. Soil must be resilient. Small-scale agriculture is a reminder that we too, can be good soil. We are good soil when we grow healthy produce that feeds our community. When we listen to the earth and its life and honor our responsibility. We are good soil when we let food be the common thread that ties us together. As farmers, consumers, food-makers, and food-eaters, we can all nurture communities of good soil.”
